In 1727/28 elected Clerk of the Market with Knight Leverett. In 1750/51served as one of the referees, along with Rufus Greene and William Cowell, Jr. in a dispute involving Thomas Edwards and Thomas Townsend. Clause in will of Edward Winslow suggests that Hurd occasionally employed Thomas McCullough as journeyman. Estate of Marblehead smith, William Jones, owed Hurd money. Hurd appraiser of estates of William Cowell, Sr. in 1736, James Boyer in 1741, and John Edwards in 1746. With Benjamin Hiller, Hurd witnessed deed for Samuel Torrey and Joseph Webb in 1738/39. Benjamin Hiller witnessed the bond of Hurd's guardianship of Houghton Perkins. Accounts show that Hurd provided finishing work for Benjamin Greene. Samuel Edwards and William Simpkins were two of the appraisers of his estate.
