"Born in Hanover on May 6, 1751, died there on Jan. 23, 1823. Bailey was a Quaker preacher and an ingenious mechanic. . . . He trained his sons Joseph and John Jr. (III) as clockmakers. Bailey made tall clocks, dwarf tall clocks, and shelf clocks. . . .
