William Cummens1768–1834
"Born in 1768, died in Roxbury on April 20, 1834, age 66. An apprentice of Simon Willard . . . one of the first authorized by Simon Willard to make patent timepieces. . . . His patent timepiece movements with T-bridges and through-bolt mounting are distinctive for their often smaller size plates than used by Simon Willard and other early Roxbury makers. Cummens made tall clocks, shelf clocks, and patent timepieces." - see full biographical information in 'Willard's Patent Time Pieces: A History of the Weight-Driven Banjo Clock, 1800-1900" by Paul J.
