David WoodAmerican, 1766–1850

"Born in Newburyport on July 5, 1766, died in Lexington on Jan. 22, 1855, age 88. Probably apprenticed to Daniel Balch Sr. . . . Wood made tall clocks, shelf clocks, and patent timepieces. He is noted for his diminutive shelf clocks, often containing 2-day movements. His patent and lyre timepiece movements have only three pillars and distinctive "beehive" shaped plates." - see full biographical information in 'Willard's Patent Time Pieces: A History of the Weight-Driven Banjo Clock, 1800-1900" by Paul J.
