Therman Statom (born 1953)

Born in Winter Haven, Florida, Los Angeles-based artist Statom is a crafter of glass. Statom studied and practiced sculpture at Rhode Island School of Design (BFA, 1974) and Pratt Institute (MFA, 1980). The precarious design of his glass sculptures, glued together with silicone, reveals Statom’s interest in exploring the boundaries of space, perception, and the ethereal. He has won several awards, including NEA grants, and fellowships from the Ford Foundation, and Brody Arts Foundation.
