Arthur Tracy CabotAmerican, 1852–1912

In addition to being a surgeon at Massachusetts General, a teacher at Harvard Medical School, amateur watercolorist, and MFA trustee, Cabot had a notable collection of American and European Impressionist paintings. His sister, artist Lilla Cabot Perry, acquired Monet's Meadow with Haystacks near Giverny in 1899 for him, possibly from Chase's Gallery in Boston. The painting was bequeathed to the MFA in 1942. Cabot also owned Frank Benson's Early Morning, (bequest to the MFA in 1913), and Dennis Bunker's The Pool, Medfield (purchased from his estate in 1945).
