María Magdalena Campos-Pons (American, born Cuba, 1959)

Born and raised in Cuba, and living in Boston since 1991, Campos-Pons’s multi-media pieces explore issues of feminism, racial identity, and family history. Using photography, performance, and video, in addition to sculpture, she communicates the sense of displacement as part of the immigrant experience. Campos-Pons earned a MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, and is currently an instructor at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In 2007, she was awarded the Rappaport Prize.
