This biography from the archives of AskART.com.
From England, Charles Parsons came to America at age nine and grew up in New York City where he became a noted lithographer, having apprenticed to George Endicott in 1833. From 1854 to 1862, he produced most of Endicatt's marine lithographs and also thirty for Currier and Ives. In 1863, he became the head art director for "Harper's" and held that position until 1889, when he retired.
It is written that "at "Harper's", he assembled one of the most talented teams of illustrators in publishing history", including Winslow Homer, Edwin Austin Abbey, Charles Reinhart, and Howard Pyle. He also continued to do work for Currier and Ives. He was also an early champion of watercolor.
