Born Darmstadt, Germany, Feb. 4, 1846; emigrated to US (some say 1852, others say 1870-71); resided in Huntington Township, Long Island, with wife and two children in 1880 census. Earliest signed and dated painting 1871. Lange came to Long Island, NY by 1871. From Long Island, he moved to Olympia, Washington in 1889.
