Mark Bradford
Mark Bradford (American, born 1961)
Utilizing paper taken from advertising posters and flyers around his neighborhood, Mark Bradford incorporates the clutter of everyday life into his mural sized abstractions. With their superimposed, layered materials, many of Bradford’s paintings and prints seem to reflect the urban sprawl of South Central Los Angeles. Since earning an MFA from CalArts in 1997, Bradford has shown works at the Whitney Biennial (2006) and was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship (2009).
