Camille Billops
Camille Billops (b. 1933)
A Los Angeles-born artist, Camille Billops produces films, texts and ceramics in various styles that challenge categorization. Her art reflects her world travels and encounters with various local, religious and artistic traditions from countries such as Egypt, India, and Sri Lanka, and in her art she explores racial, sexual and religious identity. In 1975, she co-founded the Hatch-Billops Collection, an independent research archive for the study of black artists, now located at Emory University.
