Heitor dos Prazeres
Heitor dos Prazeres (Brazilian, 1889-1966)
A musician, dancer, and painter, Heitor dos Prazeres captured images of the rhythmic and colorful Carnival culture of Rio de Janeiro in his works. Primarily known as a composer of Samba music, dos Prazeres began painting lively scenes of dancers and musicians for his own enjoyment in the late 1930s. Encouraged by art critics, he entered and received a prize at the First International Biennial of São Paulo in 1951, and later represented Brazil in many international art exhibitions.
