Tony Capellan
Tony Capellán (Dominican Republic, born 1955)
Studying at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Capellán uses found materials to explore the beauty and hardships of life in the Dominican Republic. Often collecting his materials on the beach, Capellán believes the objects he salvages tell stories of the dreams and fears of the people who lost them in the sea. In 1994, he was recognized by UNESCO as a Laureate Artist and his works have been exhibited throughout the Americas.
