Born in Newark, NJ., Began career as a fashion illustrator in 1938 when hired by Bamberger's in Newark, the city's leading department store. After serving in the Army Air Force during WWII he returned to Newark and established himself as a freelance artist, specializing in men's fashion. His clients ultimately included Arrow shirts, Dobbs/Knox hats, and MacGregor men's sprotswear. He produced editorial illustrations of men's fashion for the New York Times, Esquire and Gentleman's Quarterly. He also worked for hte major NYC department stores, notably Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor. There he worked with many artists whose work he admired; and he habitually took home pieces from the disposal bin.
