Charles Murphy

Born in Ohio, Charles Murphy studied at the Cleveland Art Institute, and worked at a number of American potteries before becoming the head designer at Red Wing Potteries in 1940. Murphy took a brief hiatus from Redwing, working as designer at Stetson Pottery in Lincoln, Ill, from 1949-1953. He returned to Redwing as head designer in 1953, where he stayed until the firm closed in 1967. Later in life, Murphy took up painting, working primarily as a wildlife painter.
