David BielanderSwiss (works in Germany), born in 1968

David Bielander was born in Basel, Switzerland and began his career in jewelry as an apprentice for the goldsmith Georg Spreng. In 1995 he left Switzerland for Munich where he enrolled in the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts graduate program, run by Professor Otto Kunzli. Upon completion of his degree he established a collective atelier in Munich. In February 2017 Bielander’s work was featured in a solo exhibition titled “Carte Blanche David Bielander” at the Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Art in Lausanne, Switzerland, and a corresponding catalog celebrating his twenty year career was published by (Arnolsche, 2017). In April 2017 Bielander was awarded the Swiss Grand Prize for Design—an outstanding honor, this award is given to designers who have played a defining role in cultural creativity in Switzerland.
