"Ressam” means “image-maker” or “draftsman.” Indeed, both father and son were draftsmen, working as affixers of the imperial cipher at the Imperial Mint. Mehmed bin Ömer Ressam studied with his father. He wrote a number of architectural inscriptions and taught at the Topkapı Palace School.
