Description
From the early 1960s on, Sander used saturated chromatic fields separated by finely drawn black lines in the simplest of rectangular compositions to focus the viewer on the subtle relationship of tone on tone colors he uses.  Like the painting of Giehler and Halley, Sander's work looks back at geometric abstraction of the first part of the 20th century, while simultaneously foreshadowing later styles of panting such as color field and minimalism.
