Description
Built in 1881 by Smith and Townsend of East Boston, "Luzon" was a 1,391-ton Down Easter, an economical cargo carrier not designed for speed. White built two models of "Luzon," this one while he was a mate on the ship; later, he became the ship's captain. Originally rigged with silk sails, this model has been restored at least three times, owing to the fragility of the light-sensitive fabric.
