(1) If the initials on the handle are read away from the bowl as MI, they are for Mary Jackson, daughter of Edward Jackson (d. 1757) who m. Oliver Wendell. If they are read towards the bowl as IW, they are for Jacob Wendell, father of Oliver. Mary and Oliver's daughter Sarah m. 1801 Rev Abiel Holmes; their son Oliver Wendell Holmes, m. 1840 Amelia Lee Jackson [the initials on the rim. Amelia was also Mary's great-niece]; their son Oliver Wendell Holmes m. 1861 Fanny Dixwell; his nephew Edward Jackson Holmes.
