This unusual center table on a rosewood plinth recalls similar tables used to furnish the Prince Regent’s London residence at Carlton House. A variety of new furniture forms, such as pier tables, console tables, and side tables, were developed during the Regencyperiod for halls and reception rooms. This table is notable for its finely modeled central column, decorated with acanthus leaves and supported by classical scroll brackets.
