Pygmalion fell in love with a sculpture he had chiseled from stone. Seeing his frustration, Venus, the goddess of love, intervened and breathed life into the figure, who was awakened by Pygmalion's kiss. Pygmalion is in his studio, surrounded by tools. Venus descends from the clouds, and the sculptor steps onto the pedestal to embrace his beloved Galatea as she comes to life.
