ProvenancePossibly Thomas Brouart (b. 1584 - d. 1635), father of the sitters; possibly by descent to the sitter, Jacqueline Brouart (b. 1627 - d. 1691); until 1884, possibly by descent through the van Beresteyn family, Maurick Castle, Vught, Netherlands [see note 1]; October 21, 1884, possibly included in the Gisbert van Beresteyn sale, Van Bommel, 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands [see note 2]. By the late 19th century, possibly the Dukes of Osuna, Spain, and by descent, through the Marqueses de Río Seco, within the family. 2014, acquired through Sotheby’s by Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo, Marblehead, MA [see note 3]; 2021, gift of Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo to the MFA. [1] In 1645, Jacqueline Brouart married Christiaan Prins van Beresteyn (b. 1616 - d. 1667).

[2] The catalogue descriptions are extremely vague, listing lots 8-14 as "portraits on panel, all from the 17th century, very beautiful by famous masters." Lots 17-46b are similarly described.
