[1] See Anna Jameson, Companion to the Most Celebrated Private Galleries of Art in London (London, 1844), p, 206, no. 130. This painting may have belonged to the Duke's father, George Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland (b. 1758 - d. 1833), Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland. It does not appear in the 1810 or 1818 catalogues of the Marquis of Stafford (later Duke of Sutherland) collection, nor does it appear in the illustrated catalogues of their London home, Cleveland House, made in 1812 and 1825.
