Description
The brass plaque reads: "Souvenir Battle of Lake Erie September 10th 1813.  Piece of stanchion from Perry's Battleship 'Niagara'." Oliver Hazard Perry commanded the American fleet that defeated the British at the Battle of Lake Erie, in the War of 1812. His report has become legendary: "We have met the enemy and they are ours."
